Destiny 2 introduces a new feature in Season 15 - Separate melee actions. As a result, you should then better control when and how you use your melee capabilities. And this is how it works.
What has it with the new feature? Do you know that? You want to throw a knife on a approaching, exploding enemy, but after pressing the melee button, you praise your forward instead, missing the opponent in the face and dissolves so unintentionally the explosion? Or is you wasted totally unintentionally the valuable near plain guard for a lonely, mickal opponent? That's exactly what a new "Quality of Life" feature of the past will soon be belonging to the past - through separate melee actions.
** Separary melee actions - this is how it works
This is the basic principle: As of Season 15, charged and non-charged melee attacks can be assigned with separate input commands. This will give you more control of when you want to use what occasional ability. So far, this is regulated automatically via a key, which is not always done as well as the player has meant that.
These options are available: This is an "opt-in" feature: You must activate the feature yourself. The new actions are not proven by default. You will be available to you:
- The new name for the previous functioning of the melee action is "automatic melee". Here, the type of melee attack continues to depend on the situation. The execution changes, depending on which ability to equip you and how far from enemies are removed. This option should work largely smoothly, but sometimes may differ from the actual intentions of the players.
- The first new action will be called "charged melee attack". When triggering the button we enabled your charged melee capability here - regardless of how far from the enemy is away. If you press the appropriate button, while your melee ability is not fully charged, nothing will happen. Only the symbol of melee ability will then light red.
- The second new action is called "uncharged melee attack" and will always run a non-charged melee attack when triggering - even if your melee ability is fully charged.
Here you find the setting options: You can customize the new feature in the control.
- You play with mouse and keyboard, then opens the settings menu, click on keyboard / mouse, scrolls to "recharated melee attack" and "uncharged melee attack" and assigns you a corresponding key there.
- You can go with a controller, then navigates to the Settings menu, goes there on Controller> Key assignment> individual and scrolls here to "charged melee attack" and "uncharged melee attack". Now you can assign the actions corresponding keys.
You still have to pay attention: This new control feature is quite uncomplicated in itself, but according to Bungie there is one or the other thing that should be considered:
- The melee attacks are triggered when the assigned key is pressed, not if you drop it. It is not considered whether you may keep the respective key pressed. This means: None of the melee actions with "Long press a key" or "double press a button" can be assigned.
- Controllers have limited input possibilities, so you will have to be more creative when setting your control. Example: You can set the charged melee on RB / R2 and the unknown melee at once pressing the right stick / R3. Although the assignments for finisher and unchecked melee would be identical, but that would lead to enemies always be done with a finisher instead of collecting a melee when they are critically wounded.
- If you want to occupy the charged and unchaved melee with the same key, the charged melee is always preferred. This is the opposite behavior of the automatic melee attack.
