We played the beta of New World and have had great fun despite some criticisms.
New World is just one of the most common conversation topics in the video game landscape. Not only, because the MMORPG from Amazon Game Studios in the Closed Beta leaves a good impression, but also due to graphics cards that have given up the mind when playing. But we cling to this point and focus fully on the game itself, from whom we never thought of in life, that's really what will be.
The signs were not particularly good: Amazon's first attempts to take foot on the PC and console market, were in the pants. The Shooter Moba Crucible was set to beta status for a short time after release due to many problems and only a few months later set. The same applies to Breakaway, which has not even survived the beta phase. Only The Grand Tour Game for the PS4 and Xbox One has made it to the market. New World, on the other hand, experienced multiple shifts, because the developers have removed the game belonging to the game - not so much that it has nothing to do with the original vision of a PVP-loaded sandbox MMOS, but you can tell the title clearly that he Now the people should respond, who prefer to play PvE, instead of measuring themselves with other players. There are now quests and dungeons, which were not planned both at first.
Amazon has received a big risk here to extend the development by one year to build more Theme Park MMO content. The danger that these elements could be grafted up was great. Now we have spent a few hours in the Closed Beta and can notify a good news at the same time: that's not the case. What else we like to go to New World and where there was still an increase in increasing potential, they read below.
What we like
The world
New World has a fantastic setting: It plays in an alternative 17th century in which humanity discovered an island called Aeternum in the Atlantic, on which there is a magical resource: Azoth. It can make it immortal. However, it can also cause people changing dead. And so Aeternum is a fascinating, but also at the same time the most dangerous place - and the Eiland just looks fantastic.

Technically, New World plays in the upper MMO league. Especially the dense vegetation and the beautiful lighting moods, for example at sunset, can be seen. But not only visually we like the game world very well. We also find the scenario with the mix of historically embossed clothes and weapons (musket, rapier, just to call two times) and fantasy great. In addition, a rich fauna comes with cackling turkeys, sweet bunny and snapping lying. Even strong bison and tremendous alligators are ready to be hunted and skinned. Although unfortunately, the animals do not interact with each other (if a canickel on a puma is peeping over here, the pretty little interests), but the creatures show the world still lively.
The combat system
New World does not like to be the first MMO with an action combat system, but it is definitely the best in this regard. Tab-Targeting (then named that you are looking for visor with the tab button opponents) is not here. You have to actively goals and just as well as shooting or shooting. Every weapon genre plays differently. With the sword you are quite agile, the war ax is slow, but has a high damage per beat rate, and the ranged weapons musket, arrow and bow, fire rod, ice glove and life rod are of course again something else. Who wants to fight primarily at a distance, should remember that what costs: in the case of the bow and the musket arrows or cartridges, while the magical weapons need mana.
The direct combat system picks up New World from other MMOs.
Fighting in New World makes easy mood, because it feels good and the opponents just not all put the same behavior on the day. Individual fines have special attacks, which can also be announced by animations, so you can react accordingly. Amazon has certainly oriented a little at Dark Souls - which should not mean that New World plays exactly as it is so difficult. But the basic principle with a stamina system, which determines how many times you can dodge within a short time and to block attacks, as well as the use of light and heavy attacks make us inevitably think of the masterpieces of from software. And that's always a good sign. In short: The Battle System of New World is very skill-based, which is excellent for the PVP, which plays a major role.
The progression
New World relies on a classless system. So you do not have a limited limitation, which weapons and armor you bear. In the theory you can play everything and change between different types of arms at any time, with only two killing tools can equalize. The Clou: Your handling of each genus will automatically be better by using it. For every killed enemy, not only your character gets experience points, but also the weapon used. The argument amplifiers levels until level 20 and all have their own talent tree, over which their new active and passive skills unlocked.

The Clou: You have to specialize, because how strong you are in dealing with weapon XY, you also determine your basic attributes strength, skill, intelligence, as well as focus (constitution is still available, but they only increase your maximum life energy). The war header approximately scales with your strength value, the rapier with skill and intelligence. So you should set yourself on two types of arms and concentrate on the respective attributes accordingly. With each level increase, your points that distribute it to the values. Every 50 points that you put into an attribute, you reach a milestone and releases particularly strong passive bonuses that will not only affect fighting.
For example, if you reach a starch value of 50, on the one hand increases the damage of all mild attacks with melee weapons by five percent and, on the other hand, the reduction speed of ores by ten percent - which leads us to crafting, which is much more important in New World as well as in so good Like any other MMO. There is no side employment here, but an elementary game component. You want to heal for a hard fight? Then you should have better enough cooked rations or collaped healing drinks in the inventory.
You should not ignore crafting and take resources as always.
Resources are available on Aeternum in many different shapes. Mining, animals skins, plants collecting, fishing, wooden chops, forging - all these are their own skills that increases their as well as the weapons levels by acting actively. Again, there are no limits. You can bring along with a character all crafting skills and worth it, even because you make such powerful armor and weapons themselves, rather than just hope that you can drop out of quests or killed opponents. And that is already true from the beginning. Crafting is therefore enormous. At some point we were really looking forward to every new resource we found and also have to dismantle. Because we knew yes: this allows us to produce new, useful things.
What we do not like
The quests
In terms of quest design, New World is ... Well, let's say, it's very classic. The tasks all comply with the MMO standard. "Go here, kill so and so many opponents, go there, collect that and that!" Exciting missions look different. New World is the competition in the form of The Elder Scrolls Online, Guild Wars 2 and World of Warcraft far behind. It also does not reach the narrative level of a final fantasy XIV.
Your character is always stumbling, but the quest encoders are often, if not always, set-down - both in English and German.
But even if we are actually in the critical part of this text, we have to relativize the whole thing. On the one hand, it is just considered that New World originally no quests should have. In the middle of the development, Amazon Game Studios decided to build more solid missions. And then we have to acknowledge what the developers have made here since the first test phases. The quests are not incident or varied, but they are all embedded in a narrative context and at least the main story comes with set clients. So if you want to sue ten wolves in New World (the classic par excellence), then the game always calls you a good reason that is related to the situation in the world.
The asset recycling
As much as we like the game world, one thing bother us a lot: we are just too often ran into equal-looking farmhouses in our game hours in the beta. The environment has anything else than generic, because the different areas are varied and the flora is so credible that we firmly assume that much has been built here by hand. But Amazon Game Studios seemed to save costs and therefore many assets always used again and again.
These farmhouses are really mass on Aeternum. Their architect must really have earned a golden nose.
This is not unusual, but industry standard. So many different assets and places as in a cyberpunk 2077 or Red Dead Redemption 2 can not afford each studio. However, we are talking about Amazon, one of the largest corporations in the world. In addition, the game world of New World is in the face of which you are only on foot on the way and the fast trip is only limited to limited, big enough, but not so huge that this extreme form of asset recycling apologize with it . But even if it were like this: rather a smaller and more diverse world, as a great that looks the same at all corners and ends. The latter is not the case here, but the developers have just given a lot of potential.
The Housing
The good news is: There is a Housing system in New World. The bad: Unfortunately you can not pound your own buildings out of the ground. This would be as much better in a sandbox MMO than only pre-defined structures in the cities and merely compile their interior design. Especially only the Swords of Legends from Legends from China has shown online as extensive and ingenious Housing can be in an MMO.
After all, in New World you can already relate a home from Level 15, while you only need to achieve the endgame in Solo (which is much faster than in New World). And Amazon has missed the whole a nice trick: in the cities, of course, there can not be a separate house for each player. Here the title works with instances, so that several people in principle live in the same house. But which version do other players see if they pass? Quite simply: Who knows his booth most beautiful, whose house is also visible to the general public. If that's an incentive to give you the bother with decorating. But especially in the face of this system, we would have found it better, you could buy empty parcels and operate themselves as a builder there.
Assessment
You may already notice that ourselves can win the things that we critically grate, which new world really pleases us. The strengths predominate the weaknesses. The quests may be boring designed, but they are associated with the fun combat system and steady progress. Give us experience points, resources, and thus the opportunity to increase our values, unlock new skills and make better equipment and we are satisfied. We are quickly expired in the "one quest" mode, which has brought sleep around one or the other hour. Whether New World with his PVP system, with which we have not yet busy busy enough, so that it also motivates and maintains in the endgame in the long term, we do not dare to say. But for us is already certain: this game will not be a second crucible or breakaway. We can hardly expect the official start on August 31st.
